ANDREW Garrett’s latest trip to court descended into farcical scenes when the former winemaker entered into a slanging match with the presiding judge.
Via a Federal Court video link from Perth on Tuesday, Justice Jonathan Beach ordered Mr Garrett to not talk over him on at least 10 occasions during the 45 minute hearing, which was brought about by his former financier, the National Australia Bank.
During a longwinded address from Mr Garrett to the court in Adelaide, he was told by Justice Beach to stop “rambling” and “flooding the court with little more that a stream of consciousness”, and that his arguments were “misconceived”.
Mr Garrett later accused Justice Beach of threatening him after being told that “current orders against you ... only beginning of your issues”, in reference to his behaviour in court.
Outside court, Mr Garrett, who was declared a vexatious litigant in 2006 after filing numerous lawsuits against the bank and others, said his ultimate aim was to “change the world”.
“The whole thing’s a fraud,” he said.
Yesterday’s hearing is the latest in a long history involving Mr Garrett’s business dealings with the NAB. Both parties will return to court on May 17.
