Supermarket giant Woolworths is using its distribution centre in SA to send extra deliveries to Victoria, but says the state’s stores are “receiving their fair share”.
The Victorian deliveries from the SA centre, which also supports year-round demand from its stores in the Northern Territory, are in response to an unprecedented level of demand in recent weeks, which has put enormous pressure on its supply chain right across the country.
“We’ve been working round the clock with our suppliers to get more stock into our stores and the South Australian Distribution Centre has played a key role in helping us do this,” a spokesman told The Advertiser.
The group was responding to claims SA shoppers were unable to buy toilet paper, which was being redirected to Victoria.
“South Australian stores are receiving their fair share of product through the distribution centre and will continue to do so,” he said.
”We know it’s frustrating when our customers can’t get the products they need, and we’re working as hard as we can to improve availability for everyone.”
The group also separately announced it is cutting trading times at five SA stores – Findon, Tea Tree Plaza, Seaford, Hallett Cove and Blakes Crossing – to support the delivery of groceries to the homes of vulnerable customers.
They have also rolled out a store greeter in each supermarket to wipe down shopping baskets and trolleys and ensure customers understand the social distancing rules.
Security in stores has been ramped up with security guard in every store soon.
