This year’s Winnovation Award winners have been named
FEMALE leaders in the health, engineering, arts and agriculture sectors have been recognised as winners in this year’s Winnovation Awards.
FEMALE leaders in the health, engineering, arts and agriculture sectors have been recognised as winners in this year’s Winnovation Awards.
The 11 winners across ten categories ranged from the co-designer of the STEM-focused MOD. museum to the supplier of small-scale abattoirs across regional South Australia.
Women in Innovation SA president Nicole Swaine said the winners included women from a variety of fields, industries and backgrounds who encountered community problems and committed themselves to finding a solution.
“We’ve been amazed and inspired by the entries received, which remind us once again of the women doing great work in STEM, business, government and the arts in South Australia,” she said.
“Many of these projects are already making a real, positive impact on society.
“It’s so important to recognise these women for the projects they’ve steered, not only to
thank and acknowledge them, but to highlight them as role models for other women and
young girls.”
The annual Winnovation Awards were established by Women in Innovation in 2014, to recognise the state’s leading female innovators.
Winners this year included Anika Johnstone, who co-designed the MOD. museum, and Michele Lally of Australian Micro Abattoirs - a business that builds and installs small-scale abattoirs for farmers.
The social impact category went to UniSA’s Fiona Arney and Leah Bromfield, who have developed a new approach to the prevention of child abuse and neglect.
Dr Renly Lim, who created Village Drama Against Malaria, was also recognised for her science and art program aimed at fighting malaria in western Cambodia.
The Winnovation Award winners were named at a ceremony held at the National Wine Centre on Thursday night.
