Coca-Cola Amatil has sold its former bottling facility in Thebarton to an Adelaide development company.
Australasian Property Developments, which is headed by well-known Adelaide developer Pep Rocca, pictured plans to redevelop the site as office space, warehousing and for residential use.
A smaller adjoining site had already been sold to industrial supplier Jetwave, with a third site sold to Anglicare South Australia in 2018. Sale prices for the three sites have not been disclosed.
Amatil’s Group general manager of property, Matt Toohey, said that more than 10 billion bottles had been produced at Thebarton in the company’s 66 years there.
“This site has been such a huge part of Adelaide’s working history, and we’re happy it will now be reactivated to go on supporting commercial, industrial and construction jobs,” he said.
“We’re keeping our own 170 strong SA team in Salisbury, country SA and at our new headquarters in Stirling St, Thebarton.”
Most Coca-Cola staff are employed in sales, IT, distribution and equipment servicing.
Bottling ceased in Thebarton last December with production being undertaken at other sites around Australia.
Thebarton was once the sole Australian bottler for Powerade and Jim Beam.
