MONTHS after getting itself out of a debt pickle, SA’s much-loved 72-year-old food producer Spring Gully Foods has put a fresh twist on most of its old favourites.
Managing director Kevin Webb said the company had decided to stick to its core product range of relishes and pickles to make itself strong enough to survive “further knocks”.
The award-winning business entered voluntary administration on April 11, 2013, with debts to unsecured creditors of $4.9 million.
In an amazing turnaround, driven by unprecedented customer support and demand for its products, the company repaid its creditors 102c in the dollar in December last year.
“We have a new take on some of the products that were popular in the ’50s and ’60s to cater for more updated tastes of a younger generation of customers,” Mr Webb said.
“With the Gherkalicious relish, it now has capsicum and onion in it and our beetroot relish now has a hint of orange. We have a two-year strategy for the return of Spring Gully’s strength and the focus is on maintaining steady revenues and growth.”
The business, which employs 45 staff, produces relishes, pickles, jams and honey at its Dry Creek facility.
