Saleyard lamb prices continue to hit record levels in South Australia, with a South-East farming family selling to $337 at Naracoorte today.
The 12-month-old first-cross wether lambs were offered by the James family, from the Coolawang Border Leicester stud at Mundulla.
The thumping grain-fed lambs weighed about 90 kilograms and were sold through Elders Naracoorte.
“They were the tail-end of our first-cross wether lambs,” Lachie James said.
“First-cross wethers have always been a by-product of trying to produce first-cross ewes for us, but with these prices they’re certainly holding their own.”
Mr James said while it was rewarding to receive such high prices, he can’t see them going too much further in the coming weeks.
The James family are no strangers to setting records in SA saleyards, as they smashed the top price at the Naracoorte first-cross ewe sale last year at a whopping $386.
A statewide record for lamb prices had been set only two weeks ago, with the Dublin saleyards making to $336 with lambs from the Yorke Peninsula.
