Staff at SkyCity Adelaide will be styled by one of Adelaide’s best known fashion designers in time for the opening of the casino’s $330 million expansion.

Liza Emanuele was chosen by SkyCity to design new uniforms to be worn by croupiers, restaurant and bar staff, security and other casino employees, as well as in the new luxury Eos by SkyCity hotel.

Ms Emanuele has spent the past few weeks putting the finishing touches to more than 90 designs, revealed in the Sunday Mail for the first time today, and described as “modern, chic and memorable with a sense of fun and excitement”.

Having previously designed uniforms for the Clipsal 500 and Tour Down Under events, Ms Emanuele said collaborating with SkyCity Adelaide was the “dream project”.

“I have been working on these looks for the past six months and wanted to inject some fun and magic into the designs to create something fresh and different,” she said.

“I’ve always been an advocate for creating gorgeous fashion for people of all sizes – to bring this skill set to the glamorous front of house staff uniforms through to the back of house has been a great pleasure.”

For some early advice, Ms Emanuele called on long-time mentor George Gross, who together with the late Harry Watt, styled Qantas crew in the 1990s and early 2000s.

SkyCity Adelaide general manager David Christian described Ms Emanuele as a “South Australian icon” and said their collaboration was a natural fit.

“Her understanding of the local entertainment and hospitality industries has allowed her to capture the essence of each SkyCity venue and reflect that in her beautiful designs,” he said.

“Liza’s experience in the fashion industry has brought some incredible concepts and ideas to the table.”

Uniforms for the Eos by SkyCity hotel have been described as reflecting the “soft colour palette and modern femininity of the Eos brand”, with specially designed features including custom embossed fabrics and luxury finishes.

Mr Christian said a fashion show to launch the new uniforms could be on the cards when coronavirus restrictions allow.

Samples are expected next month, with the new uniforms to be rolled out to staff in September, ahead of the opening of the casino’s $330 million expansion later this year.

Since the closure of her Hyde Park boutique in February 2017, Ms Emanuele has continued to design bridal and other custom outfits for private clients while “enjoying some down time being a mum”.

Two businesses she previously operated – Liza Emanuele Retail Pty Ltd and Liza Emanuele Design Pty Ltd – were wound up in 2015 and 2017, after racking up tens of thousands of dollars worth of debts to the tax office and other creditors.
