SkyCity Adelaide will reopen its doors to 15,000-plus ‘active’ casino members on Monday, June 29, more than three months after it was forced to shut operations and stand down close to 1100 employees to stop the spread of COVID-19.
In a significant boost to staff morale, up to 950 employees will return to work with additional safety measures in place.
A maximum limit of 2200 people, one person for every 4.9 sqm, will prevail at all times within the casino, including staff, across the ground floor – housing the Marble Hall area and gaming machines area – and on its partially open level one, which has some VIP rooms.
Members’ swipe cards and an internal counter system along with support from staff appointed as ‘COVID-safe’ ambassadors will monitor capacity limits.
A table limit of three players is in place and only 550 gaming machines, of the 850 in total, are now operational at a safe distance from each other.
A visitor register will help with contact tracing and guests and employees can wear a mask if they wish.
There is also increased and frequent cleaning of surfaces and availability of hand sanitisers for employees and guests.
The casino said its Chandelier Bar and Sports Bar will reopen later.
SkyCity Adelaide general manager David Christian said the team has worked closely with the state government to implement robust health and safety standards to manage the continuing risks associated with COVID-19.
“Members will see the difference, but more importantly, they will notice the money we have spent. The Marble Hall has been painted for the first time since 1985,” Mr Christian said.
“We look forward to showcasing some of the transformation projects that have continued during our closure.
“With a workforce of more than 1200 South Australians, our priority has remained getting our team back to work safely as we enter a historic period for SkyCity with the opening of our expansion and hotel later in 2020.”
The construction of its $330 million hotel development on the banks of the River Torrens has continued and is on track for an opening later this year.
SkyCity revealed in April the hotel would be named Eos by SkyCity and started taking bookings.
Its Madame Hanoi and The Guardsman restaurants reopened earlier this month marking a major post-COVID-19 milestone for the group.
Sean’s Kitchen will reopen in the coming weeks following the completion of work on Station Lane.
The NZ-based, ASX-listed SkyCity Group reopened most of its New Zealand casinos in mid-May, following a similar shutdown.
