PUTTING power back in the hands of women for personal and career development is at the heart of a new sisterhood taking shape in SA.

Former Westpac banking executive Kristen Raiston, tourism and hospitality veteran Jakki Govan and food entrepreneur and author Rilka Warbanoff have joined forces to set up Power of More.

The membership based initiative aims to connect, educate and provide mentoring or coaching — at least one hour with either one of the three founders — and discounted entry to networking events.

“I have always believed that having people at your table is a way of making connections because there are more things that make us similar than different, “ said Ms Warbanoff, former executive recruitment specialist.

“I am amazed at how much people fear saying yes. I am a great believer in saying yes to everything at least once.”

“Sometimes they make decisions, but fear taking that step. Having us as the support to get to that next level is what this program can do for you, she said.

“Power of More is targeted at busy women who need to allocate time for themselves to seek support or mentoring,” Ms Raiston said.

Returning to Adelaide after many years in Sydney, Ms Govan said the trio wanted to “give back” to SA women based on their own corporate and business owner experiences.

Both have their own consulting businesses.

“There is a real feeling from women here that they couldn’t, or shouldn’t move up the food chain.”

“All three of us have different skills and have had successful corporate careers so it’s about building a community that can support women across generations,” Ms Govan said.

There are other training organisations and efforts, but wanted a more wholistic approach and we wanted to give back to the community,” she said.

The next Power of More event is at Whistle and Flute on September 24 with Life Whisperer co-founder Michelle Perugini and Walkerville councillor and former foreign minister Julie Bishop’s sister MaryLou Bishop as speakers.
