The State Government has announced the final line-up for its new Recreational Fishing Advisory Council, which will provide advice on issues affecting the sector.
The five individual representatives include Shane Mensforth, David Scholefield, Amanda Whitehorn, Peter Teakle and Brian Wheadon.
The new members will join FishinSA’s John Thomas, RecFish SA’s Ian Fitzgerald, South Australian Fishing Alliance’s Graham Keegan and Tracey Tito, representing FishinSA and the South Australian Fishing Alliance.
Primary Industries and Regional Development Tim Whetstone said recreational fishing provided significant social and economic benefits to the state.
“For some time, there has been a need to enhance the dialogue and communication between recreational fishers and the South Australian Government, which is what this group aims to achieve,” Mr Whetstone said.
“The Marshall Liberal Government’s commitment to refreshing representation for recreational fishers has been achieved through a transparent, open consultation and voting process.
“I am looking forward to working with all nine members to further our commitment to South
Australia’s diverse and active recreational fishery to improve the fishing experience.”
Among the topics expected to be on the group’s agenda is whether or not SA should introduce recreational fishing licences.
