ADELAIDE’S first couple of fitness, Kayla Itsines and Tobi Pearce, have jumped 11 positions in the latest Australian Young Rich List to now rank 40th with a combined fortune of $63 million.
Having made their debut in the annual list last year with an estimated wealth of $46 million, the duo are again South Australia’s only representatives.
Ms Itsines, 26, is the fourth ranked female, behind Envato’s Cyan Ta’eed (9th, $216 million), Canva co-founder Melanie Perkins (17th, $128 million), and entertainer Erica Baxter, the ex-wife of billionaire James Packer (30th, $79 million). Victoria’s Secret model Miranda Kerr was 5th with $44 million.
Atlassian co-founders Mike Cannon-Brookes and Scott Farquhar topped the Australian Financial Review Young Rich List for the sixth year running, with combined wealth of $6.08 billion, more than 10 times the worth of the next two placegetters and up 32 per cent in the past year.
Campaign Monitor co-founders Dave Greiner and Ben Richardson came in next with $607 million.
Ms Itsines and Mr Pearce, 25, have harnessed the power of social media to build an empire based first on downloadable Bikini Body Guides, to bundled e-books, branded fitness equipment and, since late 2015, a smartphone app called Sweat With Kayla.
The pair took home the EY Entrepreneur of the Year award for SA/NT in 2015.
In the past 12 months, Ms Itsines has increased her Instagram followers from 5.8 million to 7.7 million. More than 15 million people follow her Facebook page.
“Some people say community,” Ms Itsines said of her followers in December last year.
“I say family. It’s like a big group of sisters. It’s a community of women who just want to support each other and see each other do well.
“They talk to each other and they do meet-ups, they go on boat cruises with each other. It’s just this amazing community of friends who are healthy and fit and support each other through it.”
The AFR Young Rich List has recorded Australia’s wealthiest self-made citizens aged 40 and under since 2003.
