Rawnsley Park Station’s got more on offer
THE family-owned Rawnsley Park Station in the Flinders Ranges has expanded tourism offerings ahead of peak season arrivals.
THE family owned Rawnsley Park Station in the Flinders Ranges has expanded tourism offerings ahead of peak season arrivals.
Six new two-bedroom accommodation units have now been opened at the site, 30 kms kilometres north of Hawker.
Nestled at the foot of Wilpena Pound, Rawnsley Park Station is a 12,000-hectare working sheep station in the Flinders Ranges.
Rawnsley Park Station owner Tony Smith said the new units, offering views of Rawnsley Bluff and Chace Range, would increase capacity and enable the business to cater more easily for group bookings.
“When Julie and I came here in the mid 80s, there were six cabins and a caravan park,” he said.
Steady investment has seen the addition of eight luxury eco-villas, homestead and other accommodation options and a restaurant.
Mr Smith said the business, which attracts interstate and overseas tourists has grown to 20 employees.
“We see the latest addition to the facilities at Rawnsley Park as further evidence of a process of constant renewal that we believe is so important in maintaining a healthy business.”
The business model has also evolved to offer 4WD tours, scenic flights, guided walks and specialist catering events.
Mr Smith said Rawnsley Park Station had experienced consistent growth in visitor numbers over the last ten years.
“The really positive thing is that the visitors are now coming throughout the year.
Our visitor numbers have almost doubled in the summer, mainly due to better vehicles, better airconditioning, shorter breaks, more dining options, and reliable weather forecasts.”
