THE new leader of long-term SA menswear business Peter Shearer says he is focused on service in a tough retail environment that led to the recent collapse of mens fashion specialist Roger David.

Peter Shearer was established in Adelaide in 1963 and now employs 60 staff across three stores at Rundle Mall, Glenelg and Mt Barker.

Long-term managing director Tony Gilligan stepped down earlier this year to make way for Dharmesh Raman, who was hired by Mr Gilligan and been with the business for more than a decade.

Mr Gilligan said he was leaving behind a business that had grown through word of mouth across generations.

“We have had fathers and sons and their sons come in for everything from school suits to formals and wedding wear. You can’t compare an online purchase to what we offer. The feel and fit of a perfect suit is simply something you can’t replicate online,” Mr Gilligan said.

Taking on the reins, Mr Raman said he was saddened to hear of the collapse of Roger David and the impact that would have on its workers.

“In this tough retail environment our energy is focused on identifying and building relationships with our customers and presenting them with a level of service that exceeds their expectations and products that meet their needs,” he said.

“As Tony said, what we offer is not just a suit, but a personal service where a perfectly fitting suit can be a big confidence booster.”

Most famous for their suiting, Peter Shearer also stocks a number of brands at varied price points.
