MINING company OZ Minerals is moving its Greenhill Road headquarters to a converted warehouse in Adelaide Airport’s business district.

“The new office will reflect the next phase of OZ Minerals’ growth, providing a modern work environment that will improve collaboration and reduce head office leasing costs by circa 40 per cent,” a spokeswoman said.

Studio Nine Architects and Sarah Constructions will oversee the transformation into new open plan office accommodation for up to 80 people, with the move scheduled for mid 2018.

Adelaide Airport managing director Mark Young said attracting a high-calibre company like OZ Minerals to the site was part of a vision to turn the Airport Business District into a top tier business centre in the Asia Pacific region.

“There are clear benefits for OZ Minerals moving to Adelaide Airport, giving them easier air access to their Prominent Hill and Carrapateena mining sites as well as national and international markets,” Mr Young said.

Architect Studio Nine planned to retain some original elements of the existing building, incorporating polished concrete and exposed steel trusses, while making it light, airy and contemporary.

“It’s part of the realisation of our vision to create a globally connected, next generation hub with designated industry clusters connected in a seamless manner,” he said.

“There’s significant infrastructure work underway, including the construction of the 165-room Atura Hotel, which is due to open in late 2018.

“This hotel will provide first-class business and conference facilities that will help companies do business without having to leave the airport.”

Expansion of the domestic and international terminal is also expected to get underway in the first half of 2018.

Mr Young said OZ Minerals would join other major international companies at the site including Otis Elevators and Stenhoj Group.

Other recent or current infrastructure projects include the Royal Flying Doctor Service’s new headquarters, Aldi supermarket and Beau’s Pet Hotel both opening in August, and Medstar’s emergency medical retrieval base due for completion in November.

Beau’s Pet Hotel is owned and operated by Guide Dogs SA/NT and executive manager of commercial operations Tracey Jones said there was strong demand for quality pet accommodation near the airport.

Premium dog suites were highly sought-after and bookings for school holidays and Christmas was increasing.

“Already we have had repeat stays,” she said.

“It is clear we are serving a market need.”
