TWO major off-road projects were named top civil construction projects for the year last night.

Adelaide’s $160 million O-Bahn City Access Project and Australia’s newest motorsport race

track at Tailem Bend headed the list of major winners.

The O-Bahn City Access Project won the “Value over $75 million” category in the Civil Contractors Federation (SA)’s annual Earth Awards for its improvement of user travel times and reduced traffic congestion.

The main racing circuit at the new Bend Motorsport Park at Tailem Bend, won in the “Value between $10 million and $30 million” category.

The second longest permanent racetrack in the world, second only to the famed Nordschleife, Nurburgring track in Germany, is currently being put through its paces as the Murray River town of 1600 people is transformed motorsport heaven.

The annual awards recognise the best projects in categories based on dollar value for public

recognition, CCF (SA) chief executive Phil Sutherland said.

“Importantly, we were pleased to see in the 2018 entries pool a strong level of commitment to

innovation, sustainability, environmental responsibility in project execution, and in many cases,

delivery on time and on budget,” Mr Sutherland said.

“These are skillsets that we need to fight to retain in South Australia where development and

construction of new infrastructure projects particularly, can invigorate economic and

employment outcomes.”

The SA winners will compete in the national finals in Canberra on November 16.
