Malaysian airline Malindo Air has launched direct flights from Adelaide to Bali starting just in time for Easter and potentially launching a price war with competitor Jetstar, which will double daily flights to the tourist mecca later this year.

The airline, which operates out of the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur, will fly four times a week between Denapasar and Adelaide from April 16, offering business class and economy services.

It is the first carrier since 2006 to offer a direct business class service between Adelaide and Denpasar.

Travellers have already swooped on promotional return fares of $352 for economy class and $1352 for business class.

The four weekly flights will depart Adelaide at 7.40am on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

All fares on Malindo Air include baggage, in-flight meals and entertainment.

Denpasar-Adelaide flights will depart 12.05am. For passengers travelling to and from Kuala

Lumpur, the layover in Denpasar is an hour.

Malindo Air will operate Boeing 737-800/900 aircraft comprising 12 business class and 150/168 economy class seats.

Adelaide Airport managing director Mark Young said the service would provide SA passengers with more choice and created opportunities to attrach South East Asian visitors to SA.

Malindo Air currently flies to Perth, Brisbane and Melbourne.

Jetstar, which flies seven-days a week to Bali from Adelaide, announced last week it would double daily flights between July and October 2019.

The Qantas-owned low-cost carrier said that would add more than 2000 seats a week on the route.

The extra flight is scheduled to leave Adelaide at 6:35am arriving in Bali at 10:15am. The return flight departs at 11:20am and lands in Adelaide at 5:55pm.
