German supermarket giant Kaufland has lodged plans for its third store in South Australia after acquiring land from Influencers Church at Paradise.

The company’s plans for the expansive site, wedged between the Influencers church building and Darley Rd, have been lodged with Campbelltown Council but are yet to be made public.

Unlike the company’s most recent proposal, Kaufland’s previous development plans for stores at Prospect, Forestville and Munno Para were lodged with the State Government’s State Commission Assessment Panel (SCAP).

The company is building its first South Australian store on a 23,700sq m site at Prospect and is readying demolition of the former Le Cornu site at Forestville for a second store.

While declining to reveal details about its latest proposal at Paradise, a spokeswoman confirmed plans had been lodged with council, and said the company would work with “all key stakeholders” during the approval process.

“We are committed to long-term, sustainable investment in South Australia, and we are delighted to begin the development application process in Paradise,” she said.

“We look forward to continuing to work together with the City of Campbelltown and all key stakeholders with the goal to deliver high quality, great service and amazing value to the wider Campbelltown community.”

The proposed development is located adjacent to the Paradise Fire Station, run by the SA Metropolitan Fire Service, and is also close to the Paradise O-Bahn interchange.

Property records show that in December Adelaide development company Accord Property paid Influencers $3.8 million for a 4000sqm slice of land in the precinct, currently home to the Paradise Early Learning Centre on Darley Rd.

Parts of Kaufland’s newly acquired site are currently used by commuters to ease car parking pressures caused by the nearby interchange.

While the scale of new car parking to be created by the Kaufland development is unknown, it is understood car parking will be made available to visitors to Influencers Church.

The State Government hopes a new $15.5 million “park ‘n’ ride” facility at the Paradise interchange, lodged for development approval last month, will further improve car parking in the area.

Kaufland is a subsidiary of the Schwarz Group, the world’s fourth largest retail group.

Since acquiring the Le Cornu site at Forestville in 2017, it has been on an aggressive expansion path, snapping up sites across the city.

In additional to approved developments at Forestville and Prospect, the company has lodged plans with SCAP for a supermarket at Munno Para.

The Advertiser revealed last month the company was also investigating a potential site opposite the Bunnings Warehouse at Seaford Meadows.

Influencers welcomes thousands of worshippers each week at its Paradise church, which has remained its primary South Australian campus since the 1980s.

Senior Pastor Ashley Evans said the church was “delighted to embark upon the journey of supporting Kaufland in its purchasing of the land to build a full service supermarket that will be an addition to the community in the area”.

Campbelltown Council chief executive Paul Di Iulio and Accord Property did not return calls. The SA Metropolitan Fire Service was not available for comment.
