An adelaide space startup which has satellites covering every single country on the planet, is set to break new ground - in the UK.

Myriota, which raised $20 million in a venture capital fundraising exercise earlier this year has been named by the UK Department for International Trade (DIT) as one of nine winners of its UK Tech Rocketship awards.

The winners were selected from almost 200 Australia and NZ technology scale-ups, with the UK’s dynamic tech ecosystem seen as a destination for tech companies to grow their business a key attraction.

Myriota business development executive, Tom Rayner, will represent his 22 staff strong company in London in February after it won the ‘future of mobility’ award - a remit that includes smart cities technology and urban connectedness.

Mr Rayner will take part in meetings, networking events and workshops within the DIT Tech Rocketship program.

“The reputation of the DIT attracted us, that sort of experience is invaluable,” Mr Rayner said. “It was an online application, we don’t do many, only when there is a clear commercial focus. There will also be potential investors there.”

Myriota was founded in 2011 within UniSA’s Global Sensor Network research program, before going it alone in 2015.

Space may be a formality but the trip will be a new experience for Mr Rayner.

“I have never been to Europe,” he said.
