The first residents are now at home after completion of the first stage of Peet’s under-construction $265 million Tonsley Village.

The first stage of the $265 million Tonsley Village precinct has been completed with the new residents moving in recently.

More than 70 terrace homes and apartments make up the $26 million first stage of the project by developer Peet, which has approval to construct 850 homes in buildings up to four storeys high, at the housing development.

The project is under construction at the former Mitsubishi car manufacturing site, off South Rd. Tonsley is also home to a Flinders University campus, TAFE branch, and a range of businesses in Tonsley’s Main Assembly Building.

Peet managing director Brendan Gore said he was looking forward to Tonsley Village coming to life.

“This is a huge milestone moment for our Tonsley Village project, which is part of the 61-hectare Tonsley Innovation District being developed by the state government,” Mr Gore said.

“Our team worked closely with residents throughout the journey from buying to moving into their home.”

Nick McMahon, who moved in recently, said he and his partner, both in their late 50s, were drawn to Tonsley because of a sense of adventure and newness in a different and vibrant residential estate.

“It would have been easy for me to buy an established house somewhere else, but I saw the potential excitement here. I think it’s going to be a really vibrant community.”

“I love new technology, I am an early adopter of products. I love anything that’s new – I give it a go.”

About 40 residents are living at Tonsley, which will also soon see a microbrewery by local brewhouse Lady Burra and a proposed shopping and amenities precinct, also to be developed by Peet.

The completion of Stage One also marks the opening of Tonsley Display Homes, which now offer an apartment, Grand Euro 2 home and in coming weeks a Loft 2 terrace home.

Tonsley Village’s two-bedroom, one-bathroom terrace homes start from $335,000; two-bedroom apartments start at $325,000.
