ADELAIDE is set to welcome a ‘new’ five star hotel to the CBD within the next few weeks.

The Crowne Plaza on the perimeter of Hindmarsh Square will be upgraded from a 4.5 star offering to five stars following a management switch from IHG to AccorHotels.

James Hines, managing director of Adelaide hotel developer Hines Property which owns the 308 room hotel, said the change will come into effect at midnight as October is ushered in and the hotel is rebranded as the Pullman Adelaide.

”We began building this hotel in 2008 and we thought the market has reached a point where a five star product would go down very well. Guests will go to bed in a Crowne Plaza on September 30 and wake up in a Pullman,” he said.

Technology will fuel much of the upgrade.

“Technology evolves very quickly, we want to stay at the front of that. We will introduce touch screens for conference attendees to interact with the big screen in conference rooms. There will be a complete review and upgrade of the food and beverage areas and conference facilities.”

An executive club lounge will also be a key part of the update Mr Hines said.

Hines Property also owns the nearby Ibis hotel on Grenfell St and has plans to bolster its presence interstate.

“Hines will keep developing hotel apartments in Adelaide and are close to securing some hotel development in Melbourne. We will continue to expand, we have had a pretty frantic 15 years where we have been building something for every one of those years,” Mr Hines said.

The Crowne Plaza opened in 2010, as part of a mixed use $150 million development sitting alongside an adjoining tower of 89 residential apartments which are unaffected by the rebrand.

The hotel has top floor conference facilities, pool and fitness facilities and won the Property Council of Australia’s national award for best tourism and leisure development in 2012.
