A cruise ship starting its maiden season based in Adelaide from December will be the first international cruise ship to have Coopers on tap.

Cruise & Maritime Voyages’ 1220-passenger ship Vasco da Gama will also feature a wide range of South Australian and interstate wines and spirits in a triple boost – a bonus for suppliers, familiar drinks for locals and a point of interest for international guests taking voyages to places like Kangaroo Island and Port Lincoln.

Other brands CMV will showcase on board while based in Adelaide and also Fremantle for a series of cruises include Coopers, Wirra Wirra, Yalumba, Pewsey Vale, Jansz, Vasse Felix, Adelaide Gin and Giniversity.

In another first for a cruise ship, Vasco da Gama will stop at Wallaroo and inject plenty of money into the local economy in the process as passengers and crew take shore tours, dine out and buy souvenirs.

CMV Australia’s managing director Dean Brazier is thrilled at the opportunity to support local producers from the regions that Vasco da Gama will visit this summer. “Vasco da Gama will focus on championing domestic destinations in its upcoming season as well as the 2020-21 season, so it’s only fitting that on board the ship we celebrate some of the high-quality produce we have available in Australia,” he said.

Scott Harris, marketing manager at Coopers Brewery, welcomed the opportunity to take Coopers out to sea on tap.

“In a first for any cruise ship, guests on-board Vasco da Gama will be able to enjoy Coopers Pale Ale on tap as well as other favourites from the Coopers range in cans and bottles,” he said.

“As a family-owned South Australian company focused on using traditional styles of brewing, we are pleased to partner with Cruise & Maritime Voyages who have such similar core values.”

The boom in cruising out of Adelaide, which will see 79 port calls by a range of ships this summer season, also led to CMV relocating its Australian head office from Sydney to Adelaide in 2017.

The Vasco da Gama arrives in Adelaide on December 6.

South Australian Tourism Commission figures show the expected passenger and crew numbers this summer will be a record 182,052.
