Tough retail conditions have been blamed for popular Adelaide bridal store Bridal on Pulteney going into liquidation on Monday morning.

The store held one of South Australia’s largest collections of bridal and bridesmaids gowns from leading Australian and international designers.

It had been operating for more than a decade, and won a swag of awards in that time.

About 70 customers are set to be affected by the closure.

The company’s website has already been taken down, and the store’s phone diverted to message bank.

BCR Advisory director Stephen James said a drop in sales was a key factor in the closure.

“Declining sales put pressure on the business cashflow,” he said.

Mr James said BCR Advisory was working to get in contact with the store’s customers.

“Some customers have completed dresses that need to be collected. But others with unfulfilled orders need to be notified, to work out the best way forward,” he said.

“Between customers with completed dresses that just need to be picked up and those with unfulfilled orders, all up there’s about 70 customers affected.”

Mr James said working through contacting these customers was a priority for BCR Advisory.

“We realise this will have an emotional impact on people, so we’re doing our best to contact everyone affected,” he said.

“Ultimately we’ll be looking at selling their stock, probably in the next few weeks.”

Bridal on Pulteney has been contacted for comment.
