In which suburbs do South Australia’s biggest earners live? What is the average and median income for your area? It’s all revealed in The Advertiser’s searchable database for every SA postcode.

Residents of Hyde Park, Unley and Malvern are the biggest earners in South Australia, pulling in an average taxable income of $93,871 per year, new figures from the tax office show.

At the other end of the spectrum, the 63 residents of postcode 5308, covering Galga, Copeville and Mantung about 50km to the northeast of Murray Bridge, pulled in just $29,974 per year.

While the figure for our highest paid suburb might seem high for the average wage earner, it’s well shy of Australia’s best paid workers in the home of Home and Away, Palm Beach on the New South Wales coast, who pulled in a whopping $230,330 average income.

That figure looks like it has been wildly skewed by a few big earners though, with the median (or central point) taxable income in that area just $52,234.

Eight of the top 10 highest earnings suburbs in Australia were in NSW, with the other two in Victoria.

On the upside SA had none of the bottom 10, with the 144 residents of the anomalous postcode which covers the University of Newcastle earning just $20,589 per year.

The regional Queensland area of Marshlands and Mondure was second lowest with $23,225.

In SA the highest earning suburbs were all of your usual suspects such as North Adelaide, Burnside and St Peters, while Roxby Downs — a town crowded with big earning miners - came in fourth earning an average $84,257.

The big earning jobs were also no great surprise, with surgeon, anaesthetist and internal medicine specialist rounding out the top three.

Among the top 10 in SA, all were health professionals of some sort except for lawyers at number 6, finance industry professionals at seven and mining engineers at eight.

SA surgeons could expect to earn $405,948 per year while general practitioners, rounding out the top 10, earned $138,988.
