AUSTRALIAN sharemarket listed company Sigma Healthcare on Wednesday started construction works on its new $20 million pharmacy distribution centre, paving the way for 50 new long-term jobs.

Chief executive Mark Hooper was in Pooraka for the sod turning ceremony.

“As a company, we’ve made an overall commitment of over $220 million to improve our distribution centre network in Brisbane, Perth, Sydney and now Adelaide,’’ Mr Hooper said.

“The Adelaide distribution centre will be Sigma’s largest ever investment in South Australia, worth more than $20 million.

“As a company, we are committed to future growth and our new network of distribution centres across Australia will be critical to ensuring pharmacists are always well stocked with the medicines and products required to look after their local communities in the best way possible,’’ he said.

The new 10,000 square metre facility in Pooraka will create jobs during the construction phase and employ 50 staff to operate the new centre.

The property is being delivered for Sigma by 151 Property within its flagship Goldsborough Industrial Estate.

151 Property has appointed builder Ahrens to design and construct the distribution centre, which is due to be operational in 2019.
