ADELAIDE marketing agency KWP! has won a two-year contract with Tourism NT, six months after losing its advertising contract with the South Australian Tourism Commission.

The agency, which recently relocated its head office to the former Nova cinema complex on Rundle St, opened an office in Darwin in 2016 and has since been growing its client base in the Territory.

Chief executive David O’Loughlin said the contract with Tourism NT followed a competitive pitch in September.

“We are excited to be working with such an iconic Australian brand and destination and look forward to implementing our full skill-set and experience to deliver fully integrated communications for the Territory,” he said.

“At KWP! we take great Australian brands and connect them with people everywhere. The NT will be no exception.”

NT Department of Tourism and Culture deputy chief executive Andrew Hopper said as well as KWP!’s appointment as “lead strategic and creative agency” for Tourism NT, the Adelaide firm had also been appointed to a panel of agencies for “directed projects”.

“The panel represents who we think will best help us to enhance the destination through a creative approach,” he said.

In April, the SATC awarded its advertising contract to Melbourne-based company TBWA, selecting the business from a pool of 35 applicants.

At the time the Adelaide Advertising & Design Club branded the decision an “absolute disgrace”, making South Australia the “laughing stock” of the Australian advertising industry.

“It will be argued the successful agency will now be opening a local office, but renting an office and dropping a couple of people in it is little more than smoke than mirrors,” an AADC spokesman said at the time.

“The reality is, all the strategic and creative work will be done interstate, and that’s where the profits will go.”

The SATC’s contract with KWP! expired on June 30.
