Six of South Australia’s most promising start-ups will soon have an experienced business mentor on call to help guide them through the coronavirus pandemic and beyond.

The initiative comes from the Adelaide chapter of Entrepreneurs’ Organisation (EO), a global, peer-to-peer network of more than 13,000 business owners in 58 countries and co-founded by Business SA boss Martin Haese.

EO will choose six businesses – applications are now open – based on the strengths and experience of the respective members and will match them with a mentor. Selected start-ups will typically have a weekly video-conference with their mentor.

“The role of our mentors will be to assist with strategic direction and planning and act as a sounding board for ideas and concerns,” said EC Adelaide president Andrew Phillips.

The mentors are:

John Salerno – managing director of Dedicated Systems, a supplier of complex equipment to systems integrators, defence Primes and SMEs. He is an elected member of the University of Adelaide’s alumni council and has mentored numerous start-ups.

Dr Anisha Sanghavi – principal dentist at Incredible Smiles, a family-run practice by Mitesh and Anisha Sanghavi. Last year, Incredible Smiles was a finalist in the Fast Movers awards program and now has 30 staff.

Jason Harris – Scammell Auctions, Adelaide Wholesale Network and Antique Education

Mr Harris Jason took over Scammells 10 years ago and has grown the staff from seven to 21 and introduced live online bidding technology to Australia’s auction industry. Online auction sales now make up 85 per cent of all auction purchases.
