South Australia based developers, the Monopoly Property Group (MPG), says its Wallaroo Shores resort will help transform the town’s beachfront into a world-class tourist destination.

The $220 million development will boast 100 townhouses as the first stage of a residential and commercial masterplan and MPG managing director Ben Howard is confident the complex can attract sizeable overseas investment over the next decade.

“As a proud South Australian developer, we are pleased to be helping breathe new life into the state’s economy, particularly in a region beset by ongoing challenges,” he said.

Mr Howard, who launched the development this morning with state Regional Development minister Geoff Brock, said his company was committed to hiring as many SA contractors and services as possible during the 10-year development phase.

More than 1000 fulltime jobs will be created during construction, he said, with total employment expected to rise to 2200.

The townhouses will be a modular design and constructed in SA.

The 3.4 hectare resort will boast 100 serviced two-bedroom townhouses, cinema, tennis courts, swimming pool and cafe, and will be set in an 18-hectare project on the site of a historic copper smelter. There will eventually be 656 residential dwellings and a shopping centre.

“The investment opportunities inherent in a development of this scale are significant and will bring much needed economic stimulus,” Mr Howard said.

Stage one of the development has full planning and land division consent and is due for completion by the end of 2016.

Singapore’s SilverNeedle Hospitality Group, which operates 56 hotels and resorts across Asia Pacific, will manage the four-star resort under a 20-year deal.

The community titled townhouses will have a price tag of $395,000.

The Yorke Peninsula attracts one million visitors annually.
