A 10-storey apartment building for Anzac Highway at Glandore has been officially abandoned, with the site hitting the market.

The land, at the corner of Beckman St, is for sale after developer Tim Shahin decided against plans to develop the site, which formerly housed a limousine business.

Mr Shahin said the development had been at “feasibility stage” and no formal applications were lodged.

However, there were large banners adorning the site, marketing the ‘Orion Residences’, described as “a true shining star set to transform Adelaide’s western skyline’.

The development was to feature 40 apartments, three penthouses, six townhouses, underground parking and a swimming pool.

Mr Shahin said he was instead focusing on his Onkaparinga Views housing development at Hackham.

LJ Hooker director for St Peters, Glynde and commercial Adelaide, Claude Buccella, is selling the property, which encompasses two titles over 2000sq m.

Mr Buccella said it was likely to attract developers keen to build housing or shops depending on zoning changes.

“Apartments will work but how you build them is very important,” Mr Buccella said.

“Anzac Highway is close to the city and beach but people want some space.”

“It’s a prominent corner. There’s so many possibilities there – you could do retail downstairs and apartments upstairs, or a chemist or doctors’ centre.”

The property is just two doors down from 200-202 Anzac Highway, where Feasible Developments is planning a nine-storey apartment building with retail and cafe tenancies.

That project received approval from the State Commission Assessment Panel late last year, but work is yet to begin.

It will feature 75 apartments – including eight one-bedroom units – parking for 65 cars and ground floor retail.
