The first residents of the $3bn Riverlea housing development in Adelaide’s north have moved into their new home ahead of the start of construction of an $80m retail and lifestyle precinct.

Caleb Quinn and Danielle Frost are the first residents of Riverlea after recently moving into their four-bedroom house, just north of the palm tree-lined Riverlea Boulevard which marks the entry point into the new masterplanned estate.

Ms Frost said moving into the home of their dreams was an exciting moment for the couple.

“We used to drive past our build whenever we could to get a sneak peek at the progress but now we can officially call it home,” she said.

“It’s amazing to see how quickly all the huge palms and the playground have gone in at the same time, and you just know this is going to be an incredible community to be a part of.”

Riverlea will welcome dozens of new families over the coming months as first stage homes are completed.

More than 900 house and land packages have been sold since the first sale in February last year.

Developer Walker Corporation has released a new fly-through animation offering a first look at The Palms Shopping Village which will be under construction later this year.

The $80m precinct will include a childcare centre, medical and pathology services, a wellness gym, supermarket and cafes.

Riverlea general manager Brian Virgo said the development was providing a major boost to the supply of affordable housing in Adelaide.

“We are humbled by the development’s success and inspired to ensure we deliver the very best masterplanned community in South Australia,” he said.

“Riverlea is providing the biggest boost to the supply of affordable, quality housing for families in Adelaide.

“Our close-knit community is what sets Riverlea apart from other estates in Adelaide and the facilities we will provide are second to none.”

About 12,000 homes will be built at Riverlea over the next 20 years, for more than 35,000 residents.

It will also offer new schools, sporting and community facilities, 420ha of parklands and open space, 50ha of lakes and 42km of recreation trails with bike paths and running tracks.
