IT IS hoped that a bilingual website brought about by the Local Government Association will enhance opportunities for South Australian businesses and their counterparts in Shandong.
To be launched today and timed to coincide with this week’s State Government-led trade mission to the eastern Chinese province, the English and Mandarin site promotes export-ready SA businesses such as Wines by Geoff Hardy and Barossa Fine Foods. It was developed in conjunction with the Australia China Business Council.
LGA SA president Dave Burgess said the project is a demonstration of local government taking the lead on economic development.
SASD Connect, as the website is known, is an outcome of last year’s trade mission where an agreement was made to strengthen business co-operation between Shandong prefectures and SA councils.
Phase one of the website presents information about 22 SA council regions and more than 50
pre-qualified businesses. Phase two will see equivalent information uploaded by Shandong’s prefectures and businesses.
Each of the businesses featured on the website is capable of conducting immediate business with the Chinese and were reviewed by an expert panel including members from the Department of State Development and Tradestart.
Premier Jay Weatherill will introduce phase one at an official event on Wednesday, where he will invite Shandong investors and enterprises to connect with the businesses profiled.
Minister for Investment and Trade Martin Hamilton-Smith said SASD Connect will provide significant benefits and key connections between SA and Shandong enterprises.
Additional SA businesses looking to be featured on the site should contact the economic development staff of their local council.
Delegates from 18 SA councils are part of this week’s trade mission, which runs from Tuesday to Saturday.
