South Australians will be encouraged to consider a future in submarines as part of a recruitment drive.
Defence giant Naval Group will launch its “sub what you do” campaign on Thursday as part of a push to hire 100 people for the $89.7bn Future Submarines project.
The French company currently employs about 250 people at its Port Adelaide headquarters, but aims to double its workforce by the end of 2021.
Roles including office staff and engineers will be available.
“You don’t have to be a member of the armed forces, or someone wearing hi-vis,” Naval Group Australia chief executive John Davis said.
“We already employ everyone from apprentice welders and human resources professionals to computer software technicians and engineers.”
Natalia Bondarenko used to work for Maggie Beer Products before becoming a program scheduler for Naval Group, while Carl Williamson switched from civil construction.
“You might think pate and submarines are worlds apart, but the skills I grew when scheduling gourmet food have transferred really well,” Ms Bondarenko said.
