Micro-X has been awarded a contract with a US Government agency to develop a lightweight, portable, full-body CT scanner, with the new business worth up to $25m.

The Adelaide-based technology company said it had been awarded a $US8.2m development contract with the US Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) to develop the scanner over a two year period.

A follow contract for a further $US8.2m is also on the table to take the scanner through to Food and Drug Administration submission over an additional three years subject to ARPA-H taking up the option.

Micro-X shares were up 28.2 per cent on the news at 9.1c, on heavier than usual volume.

“Micro-X will develop a portable CT scanner for the US government.

“Micro-X’s new Portable Full Body CT will leverage the company’s core technology advancements made through both the US Department of Homeland security baggage CT and Australian Medical Research Futures Fund head CT programs, building on these developments to enable a full body CT equivalent to conventional diagnostic CT scanners,’’ the company said.

Micro-X Chief Executive Officer Kingsley Hall commented said the company was excited by the contract win.

“Micro-X continues to go beyond boundaries to challenge the constraints of legacy X-ray and deliver solutions that meet the needs of customers, users and patients, and this development builds seamlessly upon the work undertaken in both head CT and baggage CT projects,’’ he said.

“Our company purpose is ‘Creating revolutionary X-Ray imaging to better lives’ and this development aligns perfectly with that, while also advancing our strategy of securing the right strategic partnerships.”
