THE Australian dollar has regained ground following losses on the back of stronger-than-expected US jobs figures.

At 0630 AEST on Monday, the local currency was trading at 92.93 US cents, up from 92.71 cents on Friday.

The US economy added 288,000 jobs in April, exceeding economists' expectations of a rise of 210,000 jobs.

The strong figures saw the Australian dollar fall as low as 92.05 US cents on Friday night but the currency regained some ground over the weekend.
