McDonald’s will open another 11 restaurants across Australia by the end of the year, bringing its total store numbers to more than 1020.

The fast food company said it had invested $130m in new and existing properties over the 2022, and in total, will have opened 19 new stores this year by the end of December.

McDonald’s Australia chief support officer David Howse said the upgrades to existing restaurants were across areas such as improved digital offerings, as well as environmental improvements.

“Most new restaurants will feature a McCafe, digital ordering kiosks, dual lane drive-thru and McDelivery partner rooms, allowing customers to continue enjoying Macca’s how and when they like,’’ Mr Howse said.

“We are also working to reduce our environmental impact in new restaurants through using LED lighting, solar panels, heat recovery water systems and recycled content for wheel stops and dining room tiles.

“The restaurants we have opened to date have received an extremely positive response from the local community, which makes us excited for our plans to continue to invest across the country.”

New sites to be opened this year include Berrinba and Baringa in Queensland, Chirnside Park and Sunbury in Victoria, and Adelaide Airport, which will reopen following the upgrade of the airport.

Mr Howse said new sites would continue to be sited in areas of high demand.

“We are focused on opening new restaurants in residential growth corridors that are close to transport and infrastructure in both metro and regional locations,’’ he said

“Every new restaurant injects approximately $5 million into the local economy and creates 100 jobs during construction and a further 120 jobs once the restaurant is operational.’’

The investment figure includes upgrades across more than 80 existing restaurants, with the total spend creating more than 4000 new jobs across construction and in restaurant roles, McDonalds said. McDonalds has 1024 restaurants across Australia in total.
