A new $30m shopping centre at Lightsview will celebrate its grand opening on Saturday, featuring a new Drakes supermarket and speciality stores.

The supermarket, a sushi store, barber and nail salon have opened their doors at the new Lightsview Village shopping centre, while a cafe, liquor store and hot pot restaurant are among operators who will open in the coming weeks.

Developer Lofty Group also has plans to build a new 87-place childcare centre at the site, on the corner of Folland Ave and Fosters Rd.

Lofty Group director Gary Patel said the new retail hub would support residents in the neighbouring suburbs of Northgate and Hillcrest, as well as the 1500 new homes planned for the new Oakden Rise housing estate.

“We’ve worked tirelessly to ensure the precinct becomes an integral part of daily life, providing a world of convenience and offering all-important choice,” he said.

“Our goal was to make Lightsview Village the heartbeat of the community, and we’re thrilled to see this vision come to fruition.”

Drakes has brought several of its new concepts to its new Lightsview offering including The Little Kitchen, where customers can buy hot meals and salads made to order, Nonna’s Pasta for fresh in-store pasta and its F’Real thickshake machine.

The store also features a dedicated section for international foods, as well as a full-service delicatessen.

Close to 100 new employees have been recruited to staff the new supermarket.

Drakes director John-Paul Drake said the new store had generated huge interest since it opened its doors for the first time last week.

“Drakes Lightsview was met with line-ups at the door on opening day, and is punching well above its weight, trading 40 per cent up on our forecasted trade for the first week,” he said.

“We’re honoured that the local community have embraced us and our team, who are doing a fantastic job.”

The 3800sq m shopping centre caps off the development of one of Adelaide’s largest master-planned suburbs at Lightsview.

A grand opening event will be held on Saturday, including giveaways, a sausage sizzle, face-painting, a coffee van and fairy floss.
