King William Rd institution Spats Cafe has closed with the business which runs it placed in liquidation
Shengxin Pty Ltd was placed in liquidation on December 19, with the company's liquidator, SV Partners, estimating it owes $522,000 to unsecured creditors.
The Australian Taxation Office is owed $80,000, documents lodged with the corporate regulator, ASIC, show, while the largest creditor is director and part-owner Zhen Hai, who is owed $168,000.
Two other owners of the business are also owed $94,000 each, the document indicates.
Shengxin has no assets apart from about $8000 worth of plant and equipment, a summary of asset and liabilities indicates.
The dessert cafe, which has traded under various owners for more than two decades at 108 King William Rd, Goodwood, has long been a popular spot for late night snacks and romantic dates.
The cafe’s Facebook page indicated it was going to be closed from December 20 and reopen on Tuesday, January 3, however comments from angry customers this week indicate this did not happen.
“Hi there. A group of us came to your business tonight as you stated you reopen today and your doors are locked,’’ one patron said.
“Really disappointed as there was a big group who travelled far. Very unprofessional.’’
Another commented: “We also travelled quite a distance to have a coffee & a late snack at 9pm. Only to find the doors locked & nobody there. DON’T advertise that you’re going to be open when you’re NOT!”
The Advertiser contacted the manager who said the cafe was “temporarily closed until further notice’’.
The liquidator has been contacted for further details.
Meanwhile Hindley St whiskey bar Suzie Wong has closed its doors after a last hurrah on New Year’s Eve.
“The time has come to end our whiskey journey and close our doors,’’ the bar’s operators told their patrons via Facebook.
“Thank you to all who joined us through their travels and high spirits. A thankyou to everyone who supported us old venue and new, it’s been neat.
“Our last day of trade will be on December 31st. So please, come see us for one last dram of whiskey business before the new year.’’
