Serial entrepreneur Jordan Grives says he’s gathered a veritable who’s who in the tech/telco sector to acquire telecommunications carrier SkyMesh.

Grives is not revealing any names – except Salta Brothers Gregg Taylor – but Citybeat has heard that the consortium paid about $50m for the company which was owned by UK-based and London-listed internet service provider Bigblu Broadband.

What Grives (illustrated) will reveal however, is that he’s been appointed SkyMesh’s new group managing director and chief executive.

Still on the right side of 40, the Brisbane-based richlister’s most recent venture, Fone Dynamics, a specialist communications platform-as-a-service (CPaaS) company, became one of Uniti Group’s first acquisitions in a 100 per scrip deal.

The deal was done when Uniti was valued at less than $100m and Grives fortune surged as he was part of Uniti Group’s executive team for three years, playing a key role in the company’s rapid expansion.

Uniti was acquired by Morrison & Co, and Brookfield Asset Management for $3.7bn in mid-2022 and its believed Grives walked away with a tidy $70m for his family office Capital J Investments which he founded in 2016.

The St Peters Lutheran College old boy is also a cornerstone investor and adviser to Brisbane-based Growth Story Capital – a boutique private equity firm which raised $32m a few years ago.

To cap it off he owns the newly named IMPULSIVE Superyacht which he acquired from hoteliers – the Laundy and Karedis families – a few years ago, launching a Whitsunday superyacht charter businesses.

“I am honoured to lead SkyMesh into its next phase of growth,” Grives says.

“We are committed to delivering exceptional service to our customers and exploring innovative solutions to meet the evolving needs of Australia’s regional telecommunications landscape.”

Restructuring

Dugan & Co Property managing director Paul Dugan says the agency is “pivoting”.

And as part of that pivot two weeks ago he called in B & T Advisory restructuring practitioner Travis Pullen to take a look at the company’s sales and leasing business.

“It’s business as usual for us here,” he says

“We’re excited to take on board this process and we can continue to build and continue to be here during an exciting period in south east Queensland.

“Our team is 100 per cent on board with this restructuring process. No partners, clients or team are affected by the restructure at all.”

Dugan has been in the property game since 2002 was a director of Chase Commercial before starting Dugan & Co Property in 2016.

He says the agency’s two asset management divisions will not be impacted by the restructure.

“All businesses need to pivot and they need to change otherwise they get left behind and this is one of the steps for us to take in order to make sure that are going to continue to be at the forefront of commercial real estate,” he says.

No parking

Parking space is obviously a premium out at northwest Private Hospital at Everton Park with a City Beat spy noticing a prime parking space at the facility reserved for “employee of the month.”
