Inaugural American Airlines Flight AA7 flies from Dallas to Brisbane

A highly anticipated first flight from Texas to a major Aussie city touches down on Monday morning and eager planespotters can watch all the action live.

United Airlines ‘more than tripling’ their flights between Queensland and the US

Excitement is growing for the inaugural Dallas-Fort Worth to Brisbane flight, with planespotters set to track the path of the aircraft as it moves across the Pacific and lands in Brisbane on Monday morning.

American Airlines Flight AA7 is scheduled leave Texas in the heart of the US about 10pm local time and land in Brisbane about 5.30am for an estimated 15 hour flight.

It will mark the longest flight by distance in the American Airlines global network and the longest flight on the Brisbane Airport destination map, Brisbane Airport said on Friday.

“We expect this to be one of the most tracked flights on Flightradar24, with people around the world tuning in to follow the aircraft’s progress from Dallas-Fort Worth to Brisbane, especially keen to watch the livestream of the landing,” Flightradar24 communications director Ian Petchenik said.

“With considerable international route growth this year, Brisbane’s popularity among aviation enthusiasts has climbed as well.”

The direct link was first announced in February this year, with the daily service expected to bring 141,000 seats into Queensland over three years, filled by some 62,000 international visitors.

The state government predicts the visitor bump will deliver an extra $113m into Queensland.

“This is a massive coup for Queensland … opening up the state to the lucrative North American market during the peak winter period,” former Treasurer Cameron Dick said in February.

“This new American Airlines service also opens up so many new opportunities for Queensland businesses, both in Texas and across parts of the eastern and southern United States.

“Dallas Fort Worth is one of the top 5 largest and busiest airports in the world and its metroplex is home to 24 fortune 500 company headquarters.”

Brisbane Airport CEO Gert-Jan de Graaff said the new route marked a “milestone moment” for Brisbane.

“(The) Dallas Fort Worth hub will provide travellers with a world of options in North, Central and South America,” he said.

“It underscores Brisbane’s allure as a global destination and unlocks fresh tourism and business prospects for Queensland, with every jet providing export opportunities to the USA.

“Our partnership with American Airlines supercharges Brisbane Airport’s position as an aviation hub and will be Brisbane’s fourth gateway into North America, alongside Vancouver, San Francisco and Los Angeles.”

The plane is a 244-seat B787-900 with up to 18 tonnes in freight capacity.

To record the historic touchdown, Brisbane Airport will set up cameras along the runway and taxiway.

“Airport livestreaming is now popular globally, but what viewers will see from Brisbane Airport for the inaugural arrival of American Airlines will be unique,” Brisbane Airport communications manager Peter Doherty said.

“We have a surprise planned which if we can pull it off technically, will set this show apart in the airport livestreaming world.”

The broadcast will be streamed to the airport’s YouTube channel, with the stream beginning around 4.45am, Brisbane time.
