Joe Hockey and Mathias Cormann caught smoking cigars outside Parliament House

THEY’VE said we must do the “heavy lifting” — to save our budget. Now Joe Hockey and Mathias Cormann have been caught sitting back smoking cigars.

Budget pressure

THEY are the politicians who have repeatedly told the Australian public that they will have to do the “heavy lifting” after the Coalition delivers its first Federal Budget next week.

But that did not stop Treasurer Joe Hockey and Finance Minister Mathias Cormann from sitting back and smoking cigars outside Parliament House in Canberra.

Footage of the two politicians enjoying each other’s company while casually smoking was first aired on Channel Nine this evening.

The footage has social media talking, with comments and internet memes hitting Twitter.

The image is bad timing for the government, which is set to deliver a Budget with a lot of tough measures including cuts to the public service, cuts to welfare, changes to the pension, a deficit tax, a potential rise in fuel excise and more.
