BUDGET day is a long and late one for MPs, their staff and the nation’s media.

So it’s little wonder the day after is a struggle.

After being up bright and early for TV appearances giving his take on the budget, Clive Palmer appeared to be feeling it in Question Time.

The member for Fairfax’s eyes looked to be closing as Tony Abbott and his Treasurer were on their feet defending last night’s release.

Slumped in his seat, Mr Palmer’s chin was soon on his chest as he nodded off.

He was saved by Government MP Mal Brough, who brought the fellow Queenslander a glass of water.

Mr Palmer also tweeted:

It’s been a big Wednesday for the Palmer United Party leader who gave his own budget reply speech over lunch at a Canberra hotel before Question Time.

Earlier he stood up to ask Treasurer Joe Hockey a question about an idea he has to align the age that ex-politicians can access their superannuation with the pension age.

Mr Palmer later told reporters it had been a big day, which for him began at 2am.

His working day normally begins at 4am, he said.

“I’ve had about 38 interviews today, roughly,” he said.

“I went a bit sleepy”.

Mr Palmer even admitted he “struggled” through his lunchtime speech at the Hyatt Hotel.
