Move over, Bali, because Jetstar is increasing its expansion into the Pacific, launching a new route from Sydney to Vanuatu with up to four flights a week in peak times.

The airline’s first ever flight to Port Vila will take off on Thursday, offering the only direct flights between the two cities, with more than 80,000 low-fare seats per year.

Jetstar’s flights will use the airline’s fleet of brand-new Airbus A321-Neos, with a flight time of three and a half hours and one-way sale fares now available from $199.

The new service continues a big investment into Pacific destinations; Jetstar also recently launched flights from Sydney to Rarotonga (Cook Islands) and Melbourne to Nadi (Fiji).

Vanuatu is an archipelago of 83 islands that has been popular with Australians for some time, most of whom visit on cruise ships, visiting destinations such as Mystery Island, Pangi, Champagne Beach and Luganville as well as Port Vila.

The country is known for its beaches, coral reefs, active volcanoes and indigenous culture and it was selected as one of Lonely Planet’s top 10 countries to visit in 2025.

About 63,000 Australians visited each year before the pandemic and that number is expected to rise quickly now that it’s becoming easier to travel back and forth.

“Vanuatu should be on every holidaymaker’s bucket list for its spectacular scenery,

captivating island culture and range of outdoor activities,” said Jetstar executive Jenn Armor.

“The launch of new budget-friendly services to Vanuatu is part of a significant expansion of

Jetstar’s network in 2024 with 14 new routes taking off.”

Meanwhile, Vanuatu Tourism Office chief executive Adela Issachar Aru said it’s never been easier for Australians to visit.

“Now is the perfect time to explore Vanuatu’s incredible value, diverse experiences and

warm hospitality,” she said.

“Visitors will be welcomed into our community-based way of life, offering authentic cultural

experiences that leave a lasting impression.”

Jetstar’s announcement comes after Qantas announced direct flights from Brisbane to Vanuatu in September, and Virgin launched a non-stop Brisbane-Port Vila route in 2023.

“This new route will maintain connectivity between Australia and the South Pacific, opening new opportunities for leisure and business travel to the region,” said Qantas’s Cam Wallace.

“With its lush landscapes and crystal blue waters, Vanuatu is a truly remarkable destination and we are proud to offer our customers more ways to experience its natural beauty.”

Jetstar’s flight sale is available now until 11:59pm on Friday December 13.
