HOLDEN has put the Âfootball back into its famous advertising jingle from the 1970s: ÂFootball, meat pies, kangaroos and Holden carsÂ.
Holden has released a special edition of the Commodore to celebrate its sponsorship of the Collingwood football club.
Dubbed the “Collingwoodore”, it comes with black stripes on its white bodywork and even comes with black wheels, to match the club’s famous colours.
The “Collingwoodore”, which also comes with a limited edition badge on its boot lid and Collingwood floor mats, is a $3500 option on any new white SV6 or V8-powered SS sedan.
Holden spokeswoman Kate Lonsdale said the special model was designed to commemorate Holden’s sponsorship of the Collingwood football club and its return to AFL after an absence of more than 15 years.
The chief executive of Collingwood, Gary Pert, said in a statement to media: “The limited edition factory enhanced VF Commodore, adorned with black and white stripes, Collingwood carpet floor mats and limited edition badging came to fruition following feedback from our members and supporters.”
A small number of Collingwood team members are expected to take delivery of the “Collingwoodore”; the club is due to make a formal announcement later in the week.
Holden has not disclosed how many of the limited editions it will build. Instead, the cars will be built to order.
Holden has done limited edition Commodores called the “Vacationer” before, and even once named a Statesman after golfer Greg Norman. But this is believed to be the first limited edition Commodore linked to football or AFL.
The “Collingwoodore” arrives as sales of the regular Commodore rose by 85 per cent in March, as its popularity bounces back after last year’s record low results.
