Bruce Djite will leave the Committee for Adelaide in the new year to take over as the new head of the Property Council in South Australia.

Djite, a former Socceroo and Adelaide United footballer, has been chosen to take the reins from previous SA executive director Daniel Gannon, who joined the Property Council’s Retirement Living Council in October.

Committee for Adelaide members were notified about Djite’s departure on Wednesday. The appointment will be formally announced at the Property Council’s Christmas lunch on Thursday.

Djite, 35, has been chief executive at the Committee for Adelaide – an advocacy group for the city established in 2013 – since July last year.

He was previously director of football at Adelaide United, where he kicked off a professional footballing career that took him to Turkey, China, South Korea and Indonesia before his retirement from the game in 2018.

In his current role at the Committee for Adelaide he has advocated for the city to grow its population to two million and for changes to make it easier for foreign students to stay in Adelaide following their studies.

He has previously been courted by the Liberal Party for a potential career in politics.

Committee for Adelaide chair David Lloyd said Djite’s time at the organisation had been “highly constructive and productive”, and a search was under way to find a replacement charged with “capitalising on the momentum we are generating”.

Meanwhile, Adelaide Fringe chief executive Heather Croall, Deloitte SA managing partner Hendri Mentz and GPEx chief executive Stephanie Clota have been appointed as new directors at the Committee for Adelaide following its AGM last week.

Djite will commence his new role early next year, taking over from interim SA executive director Bryan Moulds.

Djite declined to comment.
