SA PREMIUM food and wine merchant Bottega Rotolo has opened a new store at Goodwood as it prepares to increase its national retail presence.

Owner and founder Rosalie Rotolo-Hassan said the main focus for the past few years had been growing the wholesale side of the business.

"Our focus really now is to get the retail presence out there because the two sides of the business feed off each other," she said.

"It really is that synergy between the wholesale and retail businesses that has made things work."

Since 2009, Bottega Rotolo had expanded interstate, with stores in Sydney, Melbourne, Hobart and Perth. It planned to add two new retail outlets next year, in Sydney and Melbourne.

"One thing that's really gratifying for me is we are an SA business which has been able to successfully expand on a national basis in a very uncertain market," she said.

She said the fitout of the Goodwood store, in King William Road, would be a template for future Bottega Rotolo outlets.

"The store is split into two halves: the dry store section with things such as oils, vinegars, pasta and rice and then you walk through a glass door to a refrigerated room with things like meats and cheeses," she said.

"It's somewhere people can get a bottle of wine and a piece of cheese, or enjoy a coffee in the morning with a croissant.

"Our staff are also able to give information to customers about what to do with our products and there's that level of service you don't have in a supermarket."

The popularity of television shows such as MasterChef had led to increased demand for premium food and wine products, she added.

"The response we have had from locals to the new store has been amazing," she said.

Ms Rotolo-Hassan founded Bottega Rotolo in 1995. Today the business employed more than 50 staff nationally and had built its wholesale business to include clients such as Qantas and myriad restaurants.
