With tourism as one of the hardest-hit sectors due to COVID-19, a new Sofitel hotel in the heart of Adelaide has been dubbed a “dream come true” for the local economy.
Premier Steven Marshall said the new $140 million complex on Currie Street – which on Tuesday celebrated its “topping out” when vertical construction was completed – had created more than 1100 construction jobs and would provide more ongoing jobs when the doors open mid-next year.
He said he was hopeful the state would be open to international travellers at that time.
“We need to be ready for the bounce-out the other side so to have the Sofitel in Adelaide is a dream come true,” Mr Marshall said.
“Most importantly, out the other side is a fantastic new experience to bring people firstly from interstate then ultimately from overseas.
“We’re confident we’ll work towards a time where we can attract and invite guest from around the world to come back to Adelaide and we need to have those preparations in place.”
