Prosecutors have dropped charges against a man initially charged with the attempted murder of Mongols bikie Rocco Curra in a dramatic shooting in 2019.
Tavita Sua was charged in 2020 over the incident in Bulleen, when two men unleashed a hail of bullets into his car, four of which struck him in the head and torso.
Mr Curra miraculously survived, after emergency surgery removed a bullet from his brain.
Mr Sua had been charged with attempted murder, intentionally causing serious injury and recklessly causing serious injury.
But in a brief mention hearing in the Supreme Court of Victoria on Thursday afternoon, prosecutors confirmed all the charges would be discontinued, effectively dropping the case against Mr Sua.
Mr Curra was shot after he arrived at a Bulleen address for a meeting on the night of August 9, 2019.
A stolen BMW pulled over in front of him before two men jumped out of the car and opened fire.
As many as 16 people were initially charged over the failed hit, The Herald Sun reported in 2020.
Mr Sua will return to the Melbourne Magistrates Court on April 11, where he faces the lesser charge of failing to provide information or assistance under warrant.
