Police have taken out an apprehended domestic violence order against the adult daughter of former ABC journalist Emma Alberici after an alleged incident at her home.

The application was made after an incident where Allegra McCauley, 18, allegedly damaged property at the former Lateline presenter’s home in December.

Ms McCauley is one of Ms Alberici’s three children from her marriage to former 60 Minutes sound recordist Jason McCauley.

The couple separated in 2017.

Court documents obtained by NCA NewsWire reveal under the conditions of the order, Ms McCauley must not “assault or threaten, stalk, harass or intimidate” Ms Alberici or “intentionally or recklessly destroy or damage” any of her property.

She is also forbidden to go within 50m of Ms Alberici’s workplace or her southeast Sydney home and must not approach her, except through a lawyer.

Ms Alberici was a finance journalist for the ABC for years before her high-profile departure from the national broadcaster.

Ms McCauley is due to face Waverley Local Court later this month on a charge of destroying or damaging property worth less than $2000.

She has been released on police bail.

Ms Alberici was one of the leading journalists at the national broadcaster, working as the ABC’s Europe correspondent before presenting the flagship Lateline program until 2017.

Her high-profile departure followed an ugly stoush with then-prime minister Malcolm Turnbull about an analysis piece published while she was the ABC’s chief economics correspondent.

Ms Alberici has since worked for financial comparison website Compare the Market in its communications department.

In November 2021, she moved to Sydney-based talent headhunter Derwent.
