A man has died and another is in hospital after a second fatal head-on crash in a week in Melbourne’s southeast.
Police are investigating the two vehicle collision in Pakenham after a white Toyota van collided head-on with a silver Mitsubishi ute about 6.30am on Tuesday.
Emergency services tried to save the driver of the Toyota, but he died at the scene on Pakenham Road.
A police spokeswoman said the man was yet to be formally identified.
The driver of the Mitsubishi, a 45-year-old Noble Park man, was taken to Dandenong Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said he suffered a chest injury and was in a stable condition.
Cardinia Highway Patrol officers are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
It’s the second fatal head-on crash in Pakenham in the past week after a mother and her unborn child were killed after a collision on the Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road on Thursday.
Tess Clark, 34, tragically died in hospital after a ute collided head-on with her SUV about 8am.
